Bree Sorensen (she/her) lcsw, cadc

In my clinical work, I enjoy working with teens and adults grappling with disordered eating and body image issues. As someone with lived experience of having an eating disorder, I understand the complex challenges of discovering what is best for your body while being immersed in societal pressures to be thin. Because of this, my work leans heavily on fat liberation, Health at Every Size (HAES), community building, and activism. I support clients in building communities of care, unlearning diet culture, and developing the relationship you want to have with your body. I approach therapy in a way that acknowledges our external world. I lean on feminist, queer, and anti-racist theories to contextualize my client's experiences. Additionally, I am trained in IFS/Parts work, HAES, and harm reduction for both eating disorders and substance use.

As a PhD Candidate, I have the unique privilege of truly providing research-driven practice and practice-driven research. I have published in peer-reviewed journals’ articles on fat liberation and cancer screening avoidance among fat women. I have presented at local, national, and international conferences regarding fat liberation and social justice. I graduated from The Ohio State University with my Bachelors in Science and Social Work (BSSW) and University of Illinois at Chicago with a Masters in Social Work (MSW) with a specialization in clinical mental health. I am currently a Social Work Ph.D. Candidate at Loyola University.

If you’re ready to riot not diet, I might be a good fit for you.
